Date with my boys. :)

Isn't it funny how you wake up one morning with a plan for the day and it changes hour by hour until you hit the pillow?

Well that is how today has been - and I must say I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

The original plan: Oldest son B and my daughter A went to their dads last night - and probably won't be back for a couple of days.  Get the baby L to sleep by around 6 am and then put myself to bed until at least noon.  Have lunch with my mom around 1:00 - do some Avon & Usborne errands - then back home.  Wait for the MIL to get here to watch little L so "my guy" and I can go play in the dart league.  Come home around 10, feed and bathe little L and put him down for his midnight to 3 am nap.  Do my PC work until 3 am - change and feed little L, play with him, watch a little TV with 'my guy' since he is now home.  Put little L to bed by 6 and put myself to sleep until about 11 until I have to get ready for work.

That was my plan.  Pretty typical day for me actually.  This is how it really went:
 - L didn't go to sleep at 6 am like he normally does.  He took about a 15 minute nap, but then was up until almost noon.  I laid down to get a little rest and slept until 5pm.  No lunch with mom (sorry mom), no Avon or Usborne errands (sorry pocket book!).
 - MIL wasn't feeling well so she texted she couldn't come hang with little L tonight.  I tried to get dear SIL to come over but she had already made plans.  No darts tonight - no biggie!  League won't actually start until probably next week so I'm only missing out on practice.
 - B decided he wanted to come home because he didn't want to go to the water park his dad and sister were going to and because he wanted to get caught up on the chapter he is writing for his novel and to work on his drawings.  He was home by about 5pm.

New plan: Take both my boys and make a date night of it! :)  Me and L get ready and give Daddy kisses bye (he has to be at work in an hour).  We pile in the car with B and head into town.  First stop: A friends house to drop off a movie for them to borrow and catch up with small talk.  Then we head to the bank by 9pm to make a deposit.  Bank closed at 8. (sigh)  Everyone back in the car - but the battery is now dead. Ugh!!  A very kind woman offered to jump me off if I had jumper cables and new how to hook them up.  I was pretty sure I did, but wanted to be sure so I called my friends hubby.  He walked me through it and we got it started.  I thank the lady (and kick myself because I have no books or brochures with me to give her!!) and then we are on our way.  My interior lights are beginning to dim and flicker.  As long as I keep the gas pushed in and the engine revved it is ok.  But now we can't go get a bite to eat for fear that the car won't start again.  So we head to Taco Casa's drive-thru!

While we are waiting in line, the interior lights get lighter and lighter.  By the time I get to the window I pay the woman and tell her my car is about to die and block her drive-thru so I am going to pull off to the side and send my son in for the food.  Her response: "Well hurry and drive to the next window!"  Thanks for your expert advice.  So I pull out of the line and send B in - and although they know what is going on and it was our turn to pick up food at the window, they send him back outside for the receipt...as my lights get even more dim.  The car nearly died at every light on the way home.  I finally pull into the driveway and turn off the engine.  I tried to start it again and it started right back up.  WTH!?  I cancelled dinner at Mexican Inn for nothing! Ugh.

So we make a bottle for L and I let B sit in 'my guy's' chair and we decide to watch Netflix.  Taco Casa was exceptionally yummy and we really enjoyed the movie!

What a great little movie!  Even though this movie came out in 2003 neither B or I had seen it yet.  Eddie Murphy is always a hoot and the kids in the movie (especially the little boy that plays his son) were super cute and funny.  The movie taught a great lesson about family and happiness being more important than anything else really and how doing the right thing isn't always the easiest - but works out in the end. :)

After L's bottle - he sat in his bubba's lap and watched it with us until he fell asleep in B's arms. :)

Now L is asleep - B is in bed - and I am about to go find my pillow.  Well after I do some laundry.  Night all :)

Can you give your 10 year old self a high-five?

When I was a little girl and people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, it was always the same thing: A teacher and a mom (which happen to be almost the same thing in many instances.)
Well...now here I am - all grown up.  What am I?  A mom and a teacher - just not the way I pictured.

I became a mom at 24, then again at 26 and most recently at 35.  Being a mom is the absolute best thing in the world!!  Literally, I can't imagine anything that could top it!  And I have an amazing imagination!  Mommy-hood has its ups and downs just like any other thing in the world - but the highs absolutely trump the lows!

The Lows: Being stuck at home all day because it makes no sense to go to work every day just to pay daycare, Eating another peanut butter and jelly sandwich, Having to spray the driveway down with water again to remove the chalk, Having little ones underneath your feet while you are trying to make dinner, Not having the time to work out because you are too busy at home being a mom, the list goes on.

The Highs: Being at home all day with the most important tiny things in the world and not missing a giggle, Eating another PB & J (who doesn't like PB & J!), spending an hour outside in the driveway creating a chalk Masterpiece for the whole neighborhood to see (and taking tons of pictures to scrapbook later!), watching your little ones "test" spaghetti, while you are cooking dinner, to see if it really is done (and yes it is true that it will stick to the cabinet door when its ready to eat!),  collapsing in bed at night because you are so tired from flying the (Super)baby around to save the world and playing freeze tag in the backyard with the older ones), the list goes on and on and on and on and on. :)

No contest - The Highs win every time.

So obviously my childhood dream of being a mom came true - but what about a teacher?  Well that just comes hand in hand with being a mom!  I get to teach my children things everyday like the value of a true friendship, how sharing is the opposite of selfish, how to do addition and subtraction, and why we can't have a pet giraffe in the back yard - although that would be kind of cool.

So yes - I can look back at myself at 10 and give myself I high-five!  I did what I set out to do - just in a different way. Now I just pray that I nurture my children so that when they are all grown up the can look back in time and high-five their 10 year old selves. That is definitely the plan. :)

Magic Mike.... 50 Shades.... (sigh)

What to do....what to do?!

All of my girlfriends could not wait to see Magic Mike - and many went opening night on a girls night out.  Since I pretty much only watch what is on the DVR (with the exception of a WHOLE LOT of nick jr.) I get to fast forward through commercials.  I must admit that I didn't always FF through the Magic Mike commercials.  I mean come on, Channing Tatum is definitely eye candy.  However, I really never had the desire to go pay money to watch a bunch of men take their clothes off on a big movie screen while I inhale popcorn and soda...and probably chocolate.  So I had made up my mind - I was not going to go see Magic Mike!!

What had happened was...  I had planned a girls night with family and while talking about it on the phone - I blurted out - "Want to go see Magic Mike?"  What?!  What is wrong with me?  I don't want to see that.  But the plans were made and set.  Interestingly enough the day we were to go see it plans changed and we decided on a rain check.  Good! I thought.  I didn't need to see that stupid movie.

And then, (no and then!) yes.  And then, I was telling my story to a friend about how my plans to see the movie had fallen through and I was a little disappointed.  But I honestly meant I was disappointed I wasn't going to get to hang out with family!  She thought I was sad about missing the movie and said we should go.  Damn.  Apparently - it was just in the cards for me to go see Channing Tatum do the naughty dance.  So I call up another girl friend and we make a night of it.

In to the theater.  Popcorn? Yes.  Soda? Yes.  Candy....Crap.  Yes.  Sitting in the theater listening to the buzz I am kind of starting to look forward to the movie.  My initial thought is: "How am I going to go home and tell 'the man' that this was a stupid movie and I wasted money to go see it - when clearly he is going to know I am making it up?"

Finally the movie starts - YUMMY!  I must say the first 20 minutes I should have recorded on my trusty little iPhone to watch over and over and over.  After that it really went downhill fast, IMO.  The storyline (what storyline?) was crap.  The dances did not get better.  And the last dance of the movie (which I thought they would make super sexy to leave you wanting more) was by the oldest guy in the film and NOT Channing Tatum....huh?)  And I am a Matthew Mcconaughey fan - but he just isn't anything standing next to Mr. Tatum.   I know many of my friends enjoyed it to the end and thought it was great, but I really wasn't all that impressed....after the first 20 minutes. :)

So my girlfriends and I part ways and I head home.  Now I'm thinking... "How can I tell 'the man' that it was a horrible movie?!  He is going to totally think I am making it up!" lol.  Funny how that thought process changed from earlier.  But, I did go home and tell him it was basically crap and he said he knew it would be...lol.

Anyway - now for my frustration: I had absolutely no desire to see Magic Mike but because a ton of my girlfriends had seen it, loved it and couldn't believe I hadn't seen it - I went.  And aside from enjoying hanging with the girls - I totally wasted my time.

Enter 50 Shades of Grey (MommyPorn as some critics are calling it)   I had absolutely NO DESIRE to read this trilogy!  But again, tons of my girlfriends have read or are reading them and LOVE them.  And again I am kind of feeling left out.

I read an excerpt last night of the first chapter online and it didn't seem vulgar at all....

The differences are
  • I won't be wasting $$ because I have friends that are willing to lend me the books.
  • I won't necessarily waste a ton of time because if I start reading them and feel like it is too vulgar for my taste I can stop reading them.
  • I won't be in a theater with my girlfriends - I'll more than likely be in bed next to 'my guy'.  Awkward much?!
So...what to do? What to do?....(sigh)

My new blog... :)

My new blog...

So....I've decided to start a new blog.  This blog is going to be to share things with family & friends.  Things about the kiddos, ups & downs with being a WAHM (Work At Home Mom), a place to share coupons and great deals, and just funny stories of this momma cat and her babies. :)

Please feel free to comment on anything and stay in touch!  You can never have too many friends and with our busy lives sometimes it is hard to stay in touch with the ones who mean the most to ya...

So happy reading.
